Barcelona!
May. 7th, 2016 06:20 pmOne of the primary humans attended a technology conference in Barcelona last week, so the other primary human and I decided to tag along for a few days. I lounged around the flat with one (who got lots of writing done) while the other was presenting at the conference, and then we set out to see the sights.
Our first trip out took us to Montjuic Castle, which sits atop quite the hill:

Despite being a heavily armed fort, it had rather a floral theme:

This even extended to the actual guns!

On the way back to the flat, we passed the National Art Museum:

And the Greek Theatre:

On the next day, we took the Metro to the Sagrada Familia, which is a monstrosity, and no mistake!

Inside, it looked a bit like I would imagine Lothlorien if it was invaded by aliens - lots of stone trees and weird podules - and a parachuting Jesus!

It turned out they had just hid the nice, proper, church-y bits in the basement, where we weren't allowed to go:

There was a pretty good view from the tower, though:

On our last day, we took a long walk through the city and arrived at a very nice park, with an impressive fountain:

They also had a mammoth, and I had my picture taken by a very nice young man, who was interested enough in my adventures to accept one of my cards! It's always nice to collect new fans...

In the evening, we ventured out to see the dancing fountains, which are behind the human taking this photo. It was a good show, all in all, and a fun way to end our trip.

One of my most prevailing memories of Barcelona is, unfortunately, all the graffiti. Some shop owners had a rather creative defence, and I particularly liked this one:

We also came across this fine fellow protecting a patch of plants on the roadside, so we stopped to say hello:

So, we managed some culture and some fun, lots of walking, and a fair amount of relaxation - quite a good combination for a holiday, overall!
