Norway Part 2 - Bergen

Our second main stop on the Norway trip was Bergen, which we reached by a lovely seven-hour train journey. It's a pretty town and our hotel was next to a park with an interesting statue in it:

The park also commemorated Norway's first Prime Minister, who always seemed to have a seagull on his head when we went past:

The bandstand had recently been restored and was evidently very well maintained:

There was a large pedestrian shopping area, which had an imposing monument to Norway's seafaring history:

Down by the harbour, a large sea mine had been converted into a charity collecting box:

The pretty St Mary's Church was the second oldest building in Bergen:

I thought this statue was a somewhat odd way to celebrate noted Norwegian playwright, Henrik Ibsen:

We took the funicular railway up to the top of the mountain, where the view was spectacular:

This friendly gentleman was guarding the children's play area:

And we came across this fine fellow on a random wander through the less touristy bits of town:

The Rosenkrantz Tower gave one of the humans the opportunity to try his hand at being a guard - though I'm not sure how well he can see...

And I got to be king!

We really enjoyed exploring Bergen, but there was still a lot more to come...
