Less than three miles from where we live is a manor house with extensive and interesting gardens surrounding it. The house itself, Myddelton House, is not open to the public, so we could only look at it from the outside.

The gardens, however, are free to walk around in, though some of their inhabitants have been moved inside for safe keeping.

There was a definite harvest feel to the place.

Though several areas were still very much in bloom.

I particularly liked this tree - it's difficult to see in the photo, but its trunks and leaves curled around each other in a corkscrew effect.

Myddelton 5

There was a very pleasant lake.

This used to stand in Enfield market square - it must have been quite a job to move it.

This fellow seemed to think rather a lot of his musical ability - I wasn't so sure.

After a lot of walking around, it was nice to have somewhere to take a rest.

Well worth the trip, the gardens contained a huge variety of different plants and styles of landscaping - all less than an hour's walk from our front door. It would be good to go back in the summer to see what it looks like then.

What lovely grounds. I'm disappointed the inside wasn't accessible. I'm sure a bear of your stature and connections could have easily gained access to such an establishment!
