Amsterdam Post 1 (Buildings)

The humans and I packed a lot into our three days in Amsterdam last weekend, so I've decided to do multiple posts over the next few days.
The first post is all about buildings, starting with our rather fancy hotel, where the staff made us feel woefully under-dressed and under-educated, and the bedroom was more of a boudoir than anything else!

A family of four could probably have slept in the somewhat ridiculous bathroom:

I suspect prunesquallormd would have appreciated the bath, but I preferred to use it as a slide!

Once we actually made it outside, we wandered the city and came across lots of lovely architecture, starting out with the very impressive Rijksmuseum:

Our hotel was owned by the Heinneken family, but we also discovered the Amstel Hotel, which had a rather lovely terrace restaurant:

There were several beautiful clock towers at junctions in the road:

One of the most impressive buildings we saw was actually the train station:

And this church was dedicated to St Nicholas, though unfortunately it was closed to visitors on the day we were there:

There were canals everywhere, which made the city feel very spacious and quite tranquil, which many different kinds of boats, and the traditional tall, thin houses lining the waterways:

On a late night wander back from dinner, we randomly stumbled into Dam Square, where the Royal Palace holds pride of place, so we decided to head back in daylight the next day to grab a photo:

Walking round the city was highly enjoyable, and we saw lots of other interesting things, too, which I'll feature in the next post in a few days!
